Australian vocational education is provided through a partnership between government and industry. They are usually provided by other government institutions called Technical and Further Education institutions or private higher institutions.

Vocational courses are usually provided by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). This consists mainly of TAFE Institutes and private colleges.

These courses are offered by these RTO and the RTOs themselves must be registered on the Australian Government’s Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).

The registration of VET providers and courses, as well as the management of the CRICOS register, is done by the national regulator The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)
