How To Get A Scholarship To Study In Australia

There are different types of scholarships and financial aid available for you to study in Australia.

These can be the ones provided by either the Australian government, educational institutions,  private or public organisations or providers.

The Australian government is highly invested in scholarships.

The aim of this scholarship is the promotion of knowledge, education, links and ties between Australia and its partner countries under bilateral and regional agreements..

This is done through Australia’s extensive scholarship programs.

The scholarship offers those from developing countries the opportunity to undergo full time undergraduate or postgraduate studies at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions.

The Australia Awards program is a combination of scholarships that are offered by the department of Foreign Affairs, th Department of Education as well as the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research.

The funds available for international studentS to study in Australia under the scholarship are the ones for:

  • Short-term research fellowship which is targeted at graduates and also postgraduates and this has a maximum award of $24,500. This is for studies that are up to six months.
  • Professional development and has a maximum award of $18,500 and for studies of up to four months.
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) and it is for students studying for a VET diploma or associate degree. The amount up for grabs here is $6,500 per semester, which is for up to two-and-a-half years of study and the maximum award is $131,000.

The Australia Awards Scholarships provides study and research opportunities for its beneficiaries to develop the skills and knowledge they need to make a change and contribute to development in their own countries.

The scholarship offers … the opportunity to undergo full time undergraduate or postgraduate studies at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions.

The Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship

This scholaship makes provision for international graduate students who are looking to get funding for a full Master’s or PhD program.

It provides for up to $15,000 per semester and the duration of the program is up to two years for master’s programs and up to four years for PhD students with a maximum Award of $142,500 for Masters and $272,500 for PhD programs.

It is recommended that you make sure to submit your application for Australian scholarships on time as they all have deadlines.

Do take note, that Australian scholarship applications are open around April.

Be sure to check with the education provider or institution to get more details about the scholarships available for international students.

This is because many of them offer International scholarships that are available to both International students and also domestic students.

The Australian Government’s Research Training Program

The Research Training Program (RTP) was launched on the 1st of January 2017 and it serves as a replacement for the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships Program.

The RTP is available to both domestic and overseas students undertaking Research Doctorate and Research Masters degrees, known as higher degrees by research (HDRs).

It provides them with block grant support through higher educaton providers.

The scholarships covers one or more of the following:

  • tuition fees offset
  • stipend for general living costs
  • allowances related to the ancillary cost of research degrees.

For you to be able to take advantage of this scholarship, you need to make your application directly to a participating university.

A list of universities that are participating in this scholarship can be found on the list of higher education providers eligible for research block grants, which is on the Department of Education website.

The Australia APEC Women in Research Fellowship

The Australia APEC Women In Research Fellowship is made available to female researchers that are high Achievers and from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries.

The research opportunities that are provided under this Fellowship is asaa result of a partnership with Australian Education and Research institutions.

A maximum of 10 fellowships will be awarded each year for a period of five years between 2015 and 2019.
Under this scholarship, th researchers will be hosted by Australian education and research institutions for a period of up to four months.

The purpose of this Fellowship is to support women’s economic empowerment in the APEC region and also to develop the profile of female role models in the fields of technology, mathematics, science and engineering.
